Christmas Bazaar 2016

posted 24 Nov 2016, 08:36 by OLOR PA Association
Thank you to everyone who came to enjoy the OLOR Christmas Bazaar on Saturday. We had a fun and festive time and the PA hopes that we inspired your Christmas spirit just in time for Advent as you enjoyed the wonderful entertainment provided by Showbiz dancers, Wickford Air Cadets, the OLOR choir, Mrs Mason’s Drama Club as well as Cinderella and Spider-Man who all gave up their time to be with us on the day.
As always, it is the aim of the PA to create a magical event for our children and their families to enjoy. So much so that we set about planning the Bazaar as early as July! And whilst others enjoyed the gloriously sunny first half-term of this year, the PA were already thinking snowflakes, festivities and mulled wine.
Seeing all the smiling faces and the school, parish and community spirit makes us all incredibly proud to be able to do this on your behalf. However we couldn’t have done it without the PA volunteers and, once again, we were overwhelmed with support from children, past pupils, parents, grandparents and our extended parish family. There are so many who came to help before, during and after the event that it would be impossible to name you all. Please know that we are especially grateful to you ALL for giving up your time, creativity, experience and expertise because, without you, we could not have produced another fabulous event for the school.
There are a few special thanks we would like to extend:
Thank you to Mr Mundy for all the amazing games he has handmade for our school over the years (and the new ones he made for this event!) and for managing his army of volunteers. This is his final year at OLOR as his youngest son is in Year 6 and he will be hosting his final Race Night in May. We are indebted to him for his consistent support.
Thank you to Mr Geeson for returning to support the PA as the compere and auction master on Saturday.
Thank you to the fabulous hamper team, Mrs Shepherd and Mrs Donno, who have given up so much of their time to create them.
Thank you to Mr Shillingford, Mr Harnetty and Mr Budd for providing a magical Christmas surprise throughout the afternoon ~ we appreciated your support and your added magic!
Thank you to Mrs Sutton and her small logistical team for decorating the hall so beautifully and with such imaginative resources. Mrs Sutton also created the ideas for the craft activities in the grotto room which the grotto team then ran on the day. The PA continue to be grateful for her essential added sparkle!
Thank you too to the hardworking and determined team who gave up their time to tirelessly obtain raffle and auction items from businesses near and far. Every donation means limiting the outgoing expenses that the PA spends on prizes, which ultimately means more profit for the school!
Thank you to Mr and Mrs Livemore for their production of our banner, posters and programme. Their eye-catching designs really capture the essence of our objective and they generously donate their time and materials to us, treating us like first-class customers!
Thank you to Mrs Docherty and her tea room team for arranging the delicious cakes and bakes.
Thank you to Mrs Crowhurst for dedicating time to clean our food serving area, taking responsibility for our school kitchen and all her general help in the setting up on Friday night and Saturday morning as well as working on a stall for us.
Thank you to Mr & Mrs Newby for donating the soup and jacket potatoes which sold out because they were so popular but also for their hard work in lifting, shifting and coordinating in the weeks leading up.
Thank you to Mrs Lanning for organising all our wonderful volunteers, allocating jobs, stalls and making sure everyone could offer support in their own way and for being our Health and Safety Officer on the day.
We had in excess of 100 helpers for this event, so if you helped in any way THANK YOU! You have all contributed to help raise a profit of £7,000 ! This sum will go towards supporting the education of the children.
Here is some of the feedback we have received:-
“The entertainment added a special element to the Bazaar this year”
“Changes to the layout made it easier for movement to flow through the hall with a pushchair.”
“The treasure hunt idea was inspired!”
“Would just like to say a huge well done to the new PA team. Today was fantastic. The wonderful
school and parish community spirit is always the most important factor and it was there in
abundance today. Always proud of OLOR!”
The biggest thanks, of course, goes to the school and teachers who allowed us to use the classrooms, decorate the hall and distribute information via school bags and the school newsletter. We are very lucky and it was a pleasure to work with you.
