This week we have been revising long multiplication and division in Maths.  Everyone is now much more confident at using both long and short division.  Well done, children, for persevering and making great progress.  In English, we've been starting to look at a story which explores friendship through flashbacks. Look out for flashbacks in books and films this week.  Think about how and why they are used to tell the story.

This week, 6DW took part in a transition workshop from an organisation called 'Now is the time for change'. (The ladies will be coming back to work with 6N in April).    We talked about seeing the good in ourselves and others, staying positive and believing in ourselves, even when we are unsure or faced with new challenges.

Homework for next week can be found below (see 018. Year 6 Homework wc 20th Jan 20).

Are you looking for some inspiring ideas about how to improve your writing?  Savannah in 6DW has recommended a fantastic book called 'Writing Magic' by Gail Carson Levine (ISBN 978-0-06-2367-4).  It's full of wonderful ways to become a really creative writer.  The Usborne 'Write your own story' book by Louie Stowell and Jane Chisholm is also very useful. Thank you, Savannah, for inspiring everyone to write!

As part of our David Attenborough research, Luvinya in 6DW found this lovely quote from Sir David himself:

'People must feel that the natural world is important and valuable and beautiful and an amazement and a pleasure'.     It's a great quote to talk about at home or, even better, whilst enjoying a walk in the woods!

Two very useful books for working at home on Maths are as follows:

CGP Maths Targeted SATs question book for Year 6

and

CGP Maths Targeted Study Book for Year 6

https://www.cgpbooks.co.uk/primary-books/ks2/maths/m6r23-ks2-maths-targeted-study-book-year-6

Just like reading, a little an often approach is the best way to really embed Maths skills and build confidence.   On that note, we hope you make the most of the the cold winter evenings by curling up on the sofa and sharing a good story together.
